Choosing a therapist is mainly about finding someone you can trust.

Three essential things to think about:

- Are they well-trained?

- Are they kind (but clear too)?

- Would you feel comfortable working with them?

If the answer is Yes, you’ll very likely be able to build a reliable working relationship.

For me, well-trained probably means a formal 5 year training, with a clear model of human development, a decade or more in the field, and long experience of actually being a client as well as a therapist!

In terms of feeling comfortable, sometimes people go in search of a therapist who seems similar to themselves or similar to someone they know. But as long as you feel safe, difference can also be helpful in therapy.

Have a look at the next couple of pages about my approach to therapy. And maybe the blog section of my site where I mention some examples of issues I have worked with over the years.

If you’d like to discuss starting psychotherapy or counselling with me, send me an email using the Contact form and we can arrange an initial conversation...
